TORONTO – Imax is expanding its pact with Gulf Film in the Middle East to add large format screens in Dubai, Qatar and Bahrain.
The amendment to their revenue-share agreement follows a digital upgrade of an Imax theater run by Gulf Film in Dubai in 2011.

“Today’s agreement, which is a direct result of this success, marks a milestone in the region’s film entertainment landscape and highlights the growing demand for Imax among audiences in the Middle East,” said Gulf Film managing director Jaber Al Ansari in a statement on Wednesday.
The latest deal brings Gulf Film’s stable of Imax screens to four, and the number of commercial Imax theaters in the Middle East overall to 10.
Gulf Film currently runs 13 multiplexes and 101 screens in the Middle East, with continuing expansion expected in the next two years.
“Gulf Film is the number one exhibitor in the Middle East and has its pulse on the market’s film and exhibition industry. Our partnership will not only bring Imax to three countries across the region, it will play a strategic role in helping to support our continued growth efforts in this emerging market,” Imax CEO Richard Gelfond said in his own statement.
