The first-person perspective action film Hardcore Henry will hit theaters April 8 in the U.S.
The movie is told through the eyes of Henry, a newly resurrected cybernetic super soldier who is charged with saving his wife, Estelle (Haley Bennett) from a paramilitary psychic, whose ambitions lean towards total world domination.
The audience sees him punch, kick, stab, shoot and use any and all weapons at his disposal. They see him run across bridges, scale walls, ride a motorcycle, fall from a helicopter and get the living heck beat out of him in the movie, which feels like it’s been filmed via a GoPro on steroids.
“Hardcore Henry is one of the most original, adrenaline-filled moviegoing experiences to be presented in theaters in a long, long time,” said Oren Aviv, president of STX Entertainment Motion Picture Group. “This film puts moviegoers into the story and experience in a fun and visceral new way with a first-person perspective that we really have not experienced before.”
The film, directed by Ilya Naishuller and produced by Timur Bekmambetov among odthers, was previously titled Hardcore, which was changed prior to its domestic release.
The STX Entertainment film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The Hollywood Reporter‘s TIFF review deemed the film an “exhilarating action and high-caliber technical achievement both on screen and behind the camera.”
