Mark Hamill on Thursday received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and of all the impactful moments, it was Harrison Ford who tugged at fans’ heartstrings.
The Han Solo actor, along with Star Wars creator George Lucas, spoke before Hamill was awarded the 2,630th star along historic Hollywood Boulevard.
“When thinking about today, I was really sorry we don’t have the other member of our trio to celebrate with us, but I feel her presence,” Ford said.
Carrie Fisher, who played the legendary kick-ass Princess Leia, died in December 2016.
Ford said he went back and looked at the screen test he did with Hamill in 1976 for some perspective. “I was surprised by how good he was,” Ford quipped.
Lucas said Hamill was his one and only Luke Skywalker from the moment they met.
“Mark Hamill is a character that can’t be written,” said Lucas. “He is extremity enthusiastic about everything he does, and that is exactly what I was looking for when I cast Luke Skywalker.”
Hamill thanked all the Star Wars and Batman fans (he also is the Joker on the animated series and in video games) and said he has lived a blessed life.
“It’s hard to convey my gratitude, my joy and the exhilaration,” the actor said of the moment. “I haven’t been speechless since Force Awakens.”
Hamill added of Ford, “He gave me the great advice, ‘Hey, kid, Don’t get cocky.’ And I have tried to remember that to this very day.”
