Zach Galligan, who is best known for starring in 1980s classics Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch, has joined the cast of Hatchet 3, the latest installment of the cult horror series from MPI/Dark Sky Films and ArieScrope Pictures.
Cody Blue Snider, the son of Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, is also joining the cast. Below the line, Bear McCreary, the composer who worked on Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica and scored The Walking Dead, will be handling scoring duties for the movie.
B.J. McDonnell, a camera operator for movies such as the upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, is directing the movie, stepping into the shoes previously worn by Adam Green, who created the franchise and wrote and directed the first two movies. Green wrote the script for Hatchet 3 and is producing.
The Hatchet movies follow a slasher villain named Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) who haunts the bayou swamps of Louisiana and a young woman (horror mainstay Danielle Harris) who is determined to end his cursed ways.
Galligan will play a hard-nosed head of police while Snider will play a gun-loving deputy.
Rileah Vanderbilt is also joining the roll call as a SWAT team member.
The movie begins shooting this week just outside of Louisiana.
In addition to Gremlins, Galligan made a name for himself with 80s horror movie Waxworks and its sequel. He currently teaches acting at Manhattan’s Stonestreet Studios.
