If the lack of a new Hulk movie starring Mark Ruffalo following the character’s breakout status in 2012’s The Avengers seemed surprising, it’s because Marvel Studios knew that the character’s absence would make your heart grow fonder for the Avengers sequel, according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
“I would love to do that with Mark Ruffalo,” Feige told the JoBlo website when asked about the possibility of a solo Hulk movie one day. “But part of the fun of Age of Ultron was saying, you’ve seen another Iron Man adventure before, you see another Thor adventure and another Cap adventure, but we haven’t seen the Green Goliath again,” he continued.

It “was important in the characters you haven’t seen [since the first Avengers movie] — Hulk being one of them and Hawkeye being one of them — [that] Ultron will make up for it,” he said. “They have very big parts in Age of Ultron.”
That can only come as good news to fans of Hawkeye, who has the unfortunate status of having appeared in two Marvel movies without ever having really played a decisive role yet. His Thor appearance was little more than a cameo, and in Avengers, he was alternately mind-controlled and then running interference for the other heroes during the battle of New York. As the comic book version of the character would put it, “OK, this looks bad.”
Avengers: Age of Ultron is due for release May 1, 2015.
