Coinciding with this month’s release of the 300th issue of its eponymous comic anthology magazine, Heavy Metal continues to grow with three new hires, with Tina-Louise Johnson, Jeromy DeChant and Geoff Boucher joining the company as chief financial officer, sales & marketing manager, and editor-at-large, respectively.
“Joining the Heavy Metal team has been a definite highlight in my career,” Johnson said in a statement. “There is such a rich history with the brand, and Matt [Medney, CEO] has a clear plan and vision to lift the company to new heights. We have an extraordinary team and we continue to innovate as we develop exciting new partnerships, projects and products.”
Prior to her new position, Johnson worked as an independent financial operations and analystics professional with clients including Technicolor, Warner Bros. and Disney Regional Entertainment. DeChant joins the company having worked with pop culture site Nerdbot and Long Beach Comic Con.
The addition of Boucher, a veteran of both the Los Angeles Time and Deadline, as editor-at-large, is intended to restore the journalistic element of Heavy Metal magazine that was present at launch. His first piece for the magazine will appear in next month’s No. 301, when he interviews Malcolm McDowell about next year’s 50th anniversary of A Clockwork Orange.
“Comic books, sci-fi, and fantasy were a vivid fascination for me as a youngster and Heavy Metal magazine was a big part of that,” Boucher added, calling himself “positively giddy” about his new role. “I still have the very first copy I ever bought back in April 1983 at a South Florida beachside newsstand.”
“We are truly building a dream team here at Heavy Metal,” CEO Matthew Medney said about the new additions to the company. “Geoff, Tina-Louise and Jeromy all bring tremendous value and experience, and I am so eager for the world to see what we are capable of with them in our corner.”
