Broadway star Daphne Rubin-Vega, Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Stephanie Beatriz and Orange Is the New Black actress Dascha Polanco have joined In the Heights, Warner Bros.’ movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musical.
Anthony Ramos and Corey Hawkins are starring in the film, which will be helmed by Jon M. Chu.
The movie is set in New York’s Washington Heights, and centers on bodega owner Usnavi (Ramos), who has mixed feelings about closing his store and retiring to the Dominican Republic after inheriting his grandmother’s fortune. In 2008, In the Heights won the Tony Award for best musical.
Rubin-Vega will play Daniela, Beatriz will play Carla and Polanco will play Cuca.
Miranda is producing the film, which has a release date of June 26, 2020, along with Quiara Alegría Hudes, Scott Sanders, Anthony Bregman and Mara Jacobs. David Nicksay is executive producing with Jill Furman, Kevin McCollum and Jeffrey Seller. Quiara Alegría Hudes wrote the screenplay for the adaptation.
Rubin-Vega played Mimi Marquez in the Broadway musical Rent, and previously appeared on NBC’s Smash. She’s repped by Untitled Entertainment and Innovative Artists.
Beatriz stars as Detective Rosa Diaz on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and previously appeared in Short Term 12. She’s repped by ICM and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.
Polanco starred as Dayanara Diaz on six seasons of Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black, and also appeared on Netflix’s Russian Doll. Her other credits include American Crime Story, and the films Joy and The Cobbler. She’s repped by Gersh and Liebman Entertainment.
