Hellboy is back.
The first trailer for David Harbour’s Hellboy reboot shows off a comedic side to the half-demon hero. The trailer finds character in London, where his manners don’t quite allow him to fit in (not to mention his appearance).
This is the third Hellboy film, but the first in the rebooted continuity. Director Guillermo Del Toro and star Ron Perlman were the minds behind the first two installments, released in 2004 and 2008. Hellboy creator Mike Mignola penned the script for the new film along with Andrew Cosby and Christopher Golden. Game of Thrones‘ director Neil Marshall is directing the reboot. Hellboy also stars Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane and Daniel Dae Kim.
Hellboy fans got their first look at the film at New York Comic Con in October, where the team promised a grittier version of the hero.
“Even approaching the character I was nervous because Ron’s iconic and he’s a great Hellboy,” Harbour said at the panel. “So I was like, I’m not going to imitate that. I’m going to do my own thing because I do not do what he does. My approach was a little bit more down and dirty. My Hellboy feels a little younger. He’s got hair, which is a big thing. He’s got a lot more inner turmoil, he’s a little more lost in the universe. He’s got more what I bring.”
Summit Entertainment opens Hellboy on April 12, 2019.
