TORONTO — Lionsgate has teamed up with Herrick Entertainment to acquire rights to Lee Tahamori’s The Devil’s Double, a violent drama based on real events.

Lionsgate was in the hunt for the Dominic Cooper-starrer immediately after its Sundance bow, with CAA and Paradigm repping the sale for the filmmakers.

Vancouver-based Lionsgate emerged from the bidding for The Devil’s Double with the North American distribution rights, along with film producer and financier Herrick Entertainment.

Lionsgate COO Joe Drake and Jason Constantine, Lionsgate’s president of acquisitions and co-productions and Norton Herrick, Chairman/CEO of Herrick Entertainment, unveiled the deal Thursday.

The film’s cast includes Ludivine Sagnier, Mimoun Oaissa, Raad Rawi and Philip Quast. Paul Breuls, Catherine Vandeleene, Michael John Fedun and Emjay Rechsteiner produced; Harris Tulchin and Arjan Terpstra served as executive producers.
