Sure, there’s no NFL team in Los Angeles, but Hollywood has a team to root for in the Super Bowl.
The New York Giants, who defeated the San Francisco 49ers 20-17 in overtime on Sunday to advance to the league’s Feb. 5 title game in Indianapolis, are co-owned by producer Steve Tisch, who won an Oscar for 1995 best-picture winner Forrest Gump.

Tisch also has produced such recent films as Seven Pounds, the remake of The Taking of Pelham 123 and The Back-up Plan, and he has Great Hope Springs, starring Meryl Streep, on tap for release this year.
The Giants’ other co-owner is John Mara, the uncle of actresses Kate (American Horror Story) and Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), and the girls’ father is Chris Mara, who heads New York’s scouting operation as senior vp player evaluation.

Chris accompanied Rooney on the red carpet at the Golden Globes last weekend, then scurried away to watch the Giants polish off their upset of the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs’ divisional round.
Rooney and Kate’s mom is the former Kathleen Rooney, who is the granddaughter of Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney. In December, however, Rooney Mara told David Letterman that she considers herself a Giants fan. (Maybe appearing before a studio audience in New York had something to do with that.)

The Giants have been in the hands of the Mara family since it entered the NFL in 1925 as one of its first franchises. Tisch inherited his share of the Giants when his father, Loews Corp. president Bob Tisch, died in 2005.
In the Super Bowl under the dome of Lucas Oil Stadium, the Giants will face the Patriots in a rematch of the scintillating 2008 title game that saw New York spoil New England’s bid for an historic undefeated season with a last-minute 17-14 victory. The Patriots defeated the Baltimore Ravens 23-20 earlier Sunday to move on.
Each teams is seeking its fourth Super Bowl win.
