President Donald Trump drew the ire of Hollywood after launching a Twitter attack on San Juan, Puerto Rico, Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz on Saturday.
In a series of early-morning tweets, Trump lashed out at Cruz: “Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help. They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort.”
He also claimed Cruz, “who was very complimentary only a few days ago,” had been told “by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump.”
The Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump.

The president’s outburst comes after the capital city’s mayor pleaded for help from the U.S. “to save us from dying” after Hurricane Maria ravaged Puerto Rico. Cruz had previously accused the Trump administration of “killing us with the inefficiency.”
Lin-Manuel Miranda, John Legend, Lady Gaga and more stars quickly reacted with outrage and disgust over Trump’s criticism on their own social media accounts, with many calling the president out for spending time at his golf club rather than taking action.
Miranda tweeted in response, “She has been working 24/7. You have been GOLFING. You’re going straight to hell.”
Legend noted that “Trump continues to dominate the shittiest president ever competition,” while Gaga wrote, “I [think] it’s clear where the ‘poor leadership’ lies.”

Later in the day, Trump made a point to praise Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello as a “leader who is really working hard” and to thank Puerto Rico Rep. Jenniffer Gonzalez-Colon for being “wonderful to deal with.”
Blaming “fake news media” and Democrats for the strong backlash to his earlier comments, he added, “We must all be united in offering assistance to everyone suffering in Puerto Rico and elsewhere in the wake of this terrible disaster.”
