Negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and AMPTP studio alliance were down to the wire Monday night, going past the midnight deadline and ultimately resulting in a last-minute deal, which was reached around 1 a.m.
The deal averted a strike that could have hit the state economy with a $200 million blow per week (the last Hollywood walkout in 2007-08 cost California an estimated $2.1 billion to $2.5 billion).
Writers involved and Hollywood at large appeared generally happy with the results. See some of their reactions below.
I love two things: writing and being difficult. If I can’t do one, I’ll do the other. #wgaunity

Thank you, WGA. And the Baltimore-Washington Newspaper Guild. And for a lifetime of collective bargaining on my behalf. Union, union, union.

After seeing what @Travon was able to do with the WGA deal I think we should send him to N. Korea to sort out that mess.
