The Hollywood Reporter has teamed up with Principal, a global financial investment company, to launch “The Defining Moment,” a campaign that asks THR’s readers and digital audience to share stories about moments in their lives where unexpected turns led to positive outcomes that helped define their futures.
The campaign is centered on the idea that “moments that define you are meant to be shared” and is described as “a fresh and innovative way to amplify the voices and experiences of THR’s audience of entertainment insiders and film and TV lovers.”
Anyone interested in participating can submit a 300-word story explaining their “Defining Moment” for consideration at the campaign’s website.
THR editors and Sundance award-winning director Drake Doremus (Like Crazy, Equals) will review the reader submission and choose the most interesting and impactful story to serve as the kernel of a short film.
Doremus and THR’s editors will work together to find an up-and-coming director who will receive a full production budget for the project. Doremus will serve as a mentor/executive producer of the execution, checking in with the chosen filmmaker throughout production.
The final short film will be presented across THR and Principal’s platforms.
“Launching ‘The Defining Moment’ will give our readers a chance to share the stories they’d like to see be transformed into a film,” said John Amato, co-president of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group. “We’re thrilled to partner with Principal to launch this campaign to showcase the creativity of our growing audience and further our commitment to the industry and the next generation of great filmmakers.”
Added Beth Brady, senior vp and CMO at Principal: “Everyone has a plan. But sometimes, life has other plans for you. Things you never saw coming. And that’s OK. Because no matter who you are or where you are in life, we believe that with the right financial partner, progress is possible.”
