The Hollywood Reporter has won its first Emmy.
The entertainment industry’s flagship media brand and PBC SoCaL, PBS for Greater Los Angeles, were recognized Saturday night by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with a Los Angeles Area Emmy Award for The Hollywood Reporter in Focus: The Wolf of Wall Street. The program was cited in the arts and culture/history category.
The program — an intimate roundtable conversation about the making of Martin Scorsese‘s Oscar-nominated film — featured Scorsese, writer Terence Winter and stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill. The Hollywood Reporter’s Stephen Galloway moderated the discussion, which gave viewers an inside look at the inspiration behind the film, along with the challenges and the relevance of the film today in advance of its theatrical release. It first aired on PBS SoCaL on Dec. 29.
The program was produced by The Hollywood Reporter in partnership with PBS SoCaL. The winning team includes THR‘s Galloway and Janice Min, executive producers; THR’s Jennifer Laski, producer; THR’s Stephanie Fischette, associate producer; and from PBS SoCaL, Brenda Brkusic, executive producer. It was one of six awards season roundtables that aired in full on PBS SoCaL during the past Oscar season of 2013-14.
“This was one of my favorite roundtables ever,” said Galloway. “But it was also the hardest to put together. Months and months of preparation went into it before we flew a whole team to New York for the actual one-hour shoot — and even then we weren’t 100 percent sure it was going to take place. I owe Megan Colligan at Paramount a huge debt of thanks for helping us pull it off.”
Winners in 40 categories were announced at the 66th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards presentation Saturday night at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in the NoHo Arts District.
The Los Angeles Area nominees were selected by national active members and Los Angeles Area Peer Group active members within the Television Academy.
The win comes on the heels of THR‘s six awards — including best news website — at the Los Angeles Press Club’s 55th Southern California Journalism Awards last month. THR also recently received its first-ever nomination for a National Magazine Award for General Excellence.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Award Season Roundtable Series currently airs on A&E.
