HONG KONG – The Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) concluded Wednesday, granting Hong Kong’s Angel Whispers and Taiwan’s Private Eyes its HAF Awards. Seven of financing awards were given out by the HAF in total.
Presented by Create Hong Kong, Hong Kong Film Development Fund and the HAF, each HAF award is valued at $19,230 and is given to one Hong Kong project and one non-Hong Kong project.

The HAF Award for Hong Kong went to Angel Whispers by first-time directors Carrie Ng and Shirley Yung, to be produced by Carrie Ng, Shirley Yung, Chan Pang-chun and by Sundream Motion Pictures.
Taiwan’s Private Eyes by director Chang Jung-chi took the HAF Award for a non-Hong Kong project. The detective drama is produced by Chen Hung-yuan and Pang Yee-wah, and by Double Edge Entertainment.
The HAF Script Development Fund, presented by Emperor Motion Pictures and the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society and valued at $12,820, webt to Taiwan’s The Solitary Pier. The directorial debut of helmer Jack Shih, the drama about an old fisherman is produced by Dai Hsin-Ping and Red Alien Studio.
China’s Love is Speaking, by director Shu Haolun and producer Le Bei through Hours Film, took home the HAF/Fox Chinese Film Development Award, presented by Fox International Productions (Greater China). The award gives out a cash prize of $12,820 and a development contract with Fox.

The Wouter Barendrecht Award, presented by Wouter Barendrecht Film Foundation, Create Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Film Development Fund, was won by Afghanistan’s Hip Hop Kabul, a feature-length documentary about the country’s first female rapper. A cash award of $6,410 was awarded to director Fazila Amira and producer Paul Lee. The film is produced by Kabuli Camera.
The Network of Asian Fantastic Films Award, presented by Puchon International Film Festival, was given to India’s Dead, End. Director and producer Dev Benegal and producer Satish Kaushik were presented an In-Kind award of $2,700.
The newly established Fushan Documentary Film Award, presented by Fushan Features, involving a cash prize of $12,820 and a development contract with Fushan Features, went to China’s Dust, by director Zhao Liang and producers Pang Yee-wah and Sylvie Blum. The documentary, about four people and a coal miner in Inner Mongolia, is produced by Jet Tone Films.
