Ben Rothstein/Twentieth Century FoxHis Superman fandom is well established, but it turns out that Jerry Seinfeld has another connection to the world of superheroes: He’s the man who, unknowingly, convinced Wolverine to hang up his claws.
Talking during an appearance on Live! With Kelly and Michael, Hugh Jackman explained that the comedian was indirectly responsible for Jackman’s decision to stop playing the X-Men role after 17 years, following the upcoming sequel to 2013’s The Wolverine.
“I was having a chat with [Seinfeld] about a year ago, at his birthday, and he was talking about why he finished [Seinfeld],” explained Jackman. “He said he’d always had this feeling and belief that you never know when either your energy or the audience’s energy is going to dip over into people [saying] ‘Oh, please go.’ ”
Even after all this time, Jackman still loves playing Wolverine, he said, but listening to Seinfeld, he knew it was time to go. “It’s the greatest feeling,” he said of knowing that he has one final movie to go. “I’m more excited about this movie than ever before, and I just know in my gut it’s the right thing. Hopefully in five years, I’m not coming back here going, ‘Why did I do that?’ “
