‘The Human Centipede 2’: What the Critics Are Saying

The much anticipated (or dreaded) Human Centipede 2: (Full Sequence) had its world premiere Thursday night at the Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas.

So how did the black-and-white shocker, about a depraved loner so inspired by the first movie that he decides to create a much larger human centipede of his own, play for the hardcore genre audience? Did director Tom Six achieve what he set out to deliver?

Dread Central’s review gave the film just two bloody knives out of five. Though the film has some bizarrely elaborate meta-references to the first film, including an actress from the original playing herself in the sequel, reviewer Drew Tinnin says, “If Six is saying anything, he’s recommending viewers and critics don’t read into this film at all. You’ll be thinking about this film a lot more than he did, and whatever conclusions you draw, Six probably didn’t intend it that way at all. That’s why, ultimately, The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence is really just one long, elaborately set up fart joke.”

Film School Rejects is even more harsh with their review. Writer Cole Abaius gave the film an F-, writing, “There’s no movie there. It’s an idea that hasn’t been formed into anything, and certainly doesn’t demand cameras rolling or the hour and a half it takes up.”

We Are Movie Geeks also seemed quite disappointed in the film, giving it 1.5 out of five stars. Reviewer Travis Keune goes into graphic detail about the acts depicted in the film that led to get getting banned in the U.K., but says, “nothing to spoil, so before some of you decide to chastise me for giving away some of the more shocking bits, let me just say this… those who planned to see the film will still go see it, while those who had not, will not. It’s as simple as that.”

Reviewer Scott Weinberg seems almost depressed after the experience of watching the film. In his review on Fearnet.com, he writes, “With no point, no soul, and no reason to care, The Human Centipede 2 ends up as just another splatter flick that desperately wants widespread notoriety for its freakish disgustingness. Congratulations, it succeeds.”

And Screen Junkies’ review sums it all up in the headline to its review: “Above All, Human Centipede 2 Is Boring.”
