TORONTO – Can the hype behind The Hunger Games release on March 23 get any bigger?
Likely so, after Lionsgate said Imax will super-size the first installment of The Hunger Games trilogy for a limited one week engagement in its digital theaters.
Imax will release a digitally remastered version of the teen tentpole across North America day-and-date with its wider theatrical release from March 23.
“With this news, the release of The Hunger Games has truly become an epic event,” said Lionsgate’s Joe Drake, who will stick-handle the movie’s release for the indie studio ahead of his exit following the takeover of Summit Entertainment.
The distribution deal marks the first collaboration between Imax and Lionsgate, which are both headquartered in Canada.
