Larry Busacca/Getty ImagesImage Entertainment has picked up all U.S. rights to Odd Thomas, Stephen Sommers’ adaptation of the Dean Koontz book starring Anton Yelchin.
The $30 million movie, which was shot over two years ago, has been troubled by investor setbacks and lawsuits as Sommers, best known for the hit Mummy movies and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, tried to bring one of this favorite books to the screen outside the studio system.
Thomas centers on a short-order cook named Odd Thomas who can commune with the dead, a secret only his girlfriend (Addison Timlin) and the local police chief (Willem Dafoe) know.

The young man can also spot malevolent forces called bodachs, who feed on pain and portend imminent death. When Thomas sees them in spades surrounding a stranger, he finds himself in a race against time to avert a catastrophe.
The film was produced by Sommers, John Baldecchi and Howard Kaplan.
Image is planning a release in first quarter 2014.
Odd Thomas is the first in a series of seven books, six of which have already been released, that have collectively sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
Image recently released The Colony starring Laurence Fishburne, Bill Paxton and Kevin Zegers, and Paradise, the directorial debut of Diablo Cody, which starred Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Octavia Spencer and Holly Hunter.
