One of the indie film’s more prolific outfits it expanding.
New York-based Likely Story is opening up an Los Angeles office that will be headed by the company’s head of production and development Stefanie Azpiazu.
Azpiazu has been the company since 2006 and previously worked with LikelyStory founder Anthony Bregman at his earlier ventures, This Is That and Good Machine.
Likely Story had a busy 2011, producing movies such as Lay the Favorite, Our Idiot Brother, Darling Companion and The Oranges.
The company doesn’t appear to be letting up for next year. It plans on being in production on Charlie Kaufman’s new film Frank or Francis, which is due to start shooting February 2012, plus Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher. It is also working with filmmakers Nicole Holofcener, Jesse Peretz and Lawrence Kasdan among others.
“With the number of projects and filmmakers based on the West Coast growing, there is a definite demand for a team to be based in Los Angeles,” said Bregman in a statement.
Stated Azpiazu: “Anthony and I have been traveling back and forth to Los Angeles quite a bit. It’s time for Likely Story to have a presence on both coasts that will enable us to be more involved on a daily basis and to continue to develop new ideas.”
