The filmmakers of Iron Sky: The Coming Race, a sequel to the 2012 Finnish sc-fi/comedy Iron Sky, are sending out the script for their new film to fans who took part in the movie’s crowdfunding campaign in a bid to receive feedback and further development ideas.
The first draft of the script, penned by American screenwriter Dalan Musson, has been sent to over a thousand fans. The deadline for their feedback is Nov. 1.
“We’ve always been pioneering on with ideas other filmmakers shun upon, and sending the script to the fans is definitely an ultimate one of them,” Timo Vuorensola, director of both Iron Sky movies, said in a statement. “Still, we retain a tight control over the process, and only the best and strongest feedback makes it to the film.”
“Hollywood could not make this movie because they would be afraid of losing the control by letting the fans too close,” added producer Tero Kaukomaa. “For us, it’s the opposite and the only way. With the power of our fans we can make this film happen and get it out there day and date across the world.”
Of the €7.5 million budget of the first Iron Sky movie, €900,000 came as crowd investment and another €300,000 as crowd funding. The sequel’s budget is estimated at €10 million. An Indiegogo campaign brought in over $150,000.
