This Is Us won the SAG Award for best ensemble in a drama series on Sunday night.
The cast beat out The Crown, Game of Thrones, The Handmaid’s Tale and Stranger Things.
“We are just a small collection of a lot of very talented and very hard-working people that work on this show,” Milo Ventimiglia said, speaking on behalf of the cast including Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley.
After thanking creator Dan Fogelman, the show’s writers and crew, Ventimiglia took a moment to also thank the series’ fans. “For the people that watch with us every Tuesday night and embrace the show that reflects positivity and hope and inclusion, we love you,” he said.
Backstage, Brown explained how shocked he and his This Is Us co-stars were to win against fellow nominee The Handmaid’s Tale. “We were all waiting for them to say The Handmaid’s Tale and … Handmaid’s Tale is dope. When they called our network tv drama, none of these shows look like ours. The fact that we get to come to this show and we won? It’s a special night.” Earlier in the night, Brown also took home the award for best male actor in a drama series.
The SAG Awards, simulcast live on TNT and TBS, took place at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, with Kristen Bell serving as the first-ever host of the show, which featured an all-female lineup of presenters.
