Wonder Woman may have just gotten some breathing room.
With the abrupt exit of director Danny Boyle, the next installment in the James Bond film franchise — the untitled Bond 25 — will miss its Nov. 8, 2019, release date in North American theaters, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. (Wonder Woman 1984 is set to debut a week earlier on Nov. 1.)
It’s possible Bond 25 may not hit theaters until late 2020, according to sources. No recent Bond film has ever opened in summer. Even before Boyle departed, there was talk of pushing the movie’s release to early 2020.
The helmer’s exit over creative differences was revealed in a tweet earlier this week by Bond producers Barbara Broccoli, Michael G. Wilson and 007 actor Daniel Craig. Boyle was set to start shooting in early December.
MGM is handling domestic distribution duties, while Universal will release the pic overseas, which has a U.K. release date of Oct. 25, 2019.
Boyle and the Bond team were at odds over a script penned by Boyle collaborator John Hodge. A previous draft was written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who also wrote Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre.
It could take months to come up with a script that pleases all parties, including whomever Broccoli and Wilson hire to direct the movie.
MGM hasn’t confirmed that Bond 25 will move. Eon couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
