James Cameron will receive the International 3D Society’s inaugural Harold Lloyd Award, which honors outstanding achievement in 3D filmmaking and advocacy.
“James Cameron has embodied Harold Lloyd’s vision and passion for dazzling audiences across the globe,” said Suzanne Lloyd, who is 3D pioneer Harold Lloyd’s granddaughter and chairman of Harold Lloyd Entertainment. “With Avatar and his commitment to 3D storytelling, it is appropriate that he is the first recipient of this most prestigious annual award.”

Avatar, of course, made history by becoming the most successful movie of all time with more than $2.7 billion in worldwide box-office receipts, while significantly raising the profile of the digital 3D format.
Lloyd wrote, acted, directed and produced more than 200 films, and the Harold Lloyd Archive contains more than 250,000 stereoscopic 3D photographs of Hollywood celebrities and places Lloyd encountered while pursuing his passion for 3D photography.

Cameron will be presented the award Feb. 9 at the International 3D Society’s second annual Creative Arts Awards at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The award ceremony will also be recorded and telecast in 3D as part of a two hour special on 3net.
