Cinderella stayed on top of the Japanese box office for the third weekend, taking its total to $27.5 million (?33 billion) from 2.67 million admissions, while Furious 7 reversed to go back up the charts from the sixth to the fourth spot.
After posting the biggest Saturday-Sunday opening for a Hollywood production this year, Japan is set to overtake the U.K. to become the second biggest international market for Cinderella, behind China.
Furious 7 hasn’t logged the kind of huge numbers it has in other territories, but it went back up the charts this weekend and its cumulative total is now running at $23.3 million (?2.79 billion) from more than 2 million admissions after four weekends in theaters.
Local anime title Dragonball Z: Resurrection F has taken $27.4 million (?3.28 billion) after four weekends, and is due to be released in 74 countries, with the backing Fox International and local studio Toei.
Takeshi ‘Beat’ Kitano‘s action-comedy about a group of retired yakuza gangsters, Ryuzo and His Seven Henchman, held on to eighth spot on its third weekend, while Will Smith‘s Focus dropped to tenth after opening in ninth last week.
