The news that J.J. Abrams is nearing a deal to leave the world of Starfleet and head to a galaxy far, far away caused quite a stir online Thursday.
The Star Trek Into Darkness director had previously said he was not interested in taking the reins of Star Wars: Episode VII, but has apparently changed his mind.

The next installment, which Abrams would direct, is targeting a 2015 release, with Disney seeing it as a launching point for a new trilogy. Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3) is penning a script, which might include room for original trilogy actors such as Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.
Below are the best tweets Hollywood, fans, and yes, parody accounts, had to offer in reaction to Abrams’ becoming the next Star Wars director.
Hey, everybody. What did I miss?

“@mpmonroe88: @boborci what does JJ directing SW mean for ST3?” Honestly… No clue.

JJ Abrams will direct the new Star Wars movie. If he doesn’t want to be force choked, he better not screw it up.

The Death Star blows up a planet… The Genesis Device brings it back. 🙂 JJ Abrams Cross-Over! Why not?

J.J. Abrams to direct new ‘Star Wars’ movie. Rumor is, the villain is Khan

As long as JJ Abrams avoids Severe Blunt Force Trauma to the Head, these new Star Wars Films will be WAY better than the last ones.

Don’t be too proud of these JJ Abrams jokes you’ve constructed. The ability to destroy a man is insignificant next to the power of the Force

To all the grumpy Star Wars snob who hate the franchise ever since Episode One: SEE YOU THEATER for episode VII because you’ll go anyway !

I hope Abrams and Arndt add a bounty hunter character called Len Sflare. Just to piss off the nerds.
— Scott Weinberg (@scottEweinberg) January 25, 2013
The Flare is strong with this one.

Congrats on the Star Wars gig, JJ Abrams. I have a pitch for making the franchise cool again: put Batman in it.

No Sam Raimi or David Lynch on Star Wars? No deal.
