There have been several teasers and trailers released for John Carter that feature Taylor Kitsch’s titular character exploring Mars and fighting some serious extraterrestrial bad guys.

But now, Disney has released a 10-minute clip showing Kitsch’s John Carter on Earth. In the film, based on the book series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, John Carter is a down-on-his-luck Civil War vet who is mysteriously transported to Mars where he becomes involved in a battle between warring Martian nations.
In the new clip, which comes from an early part of the film, Edgar Rice Burroughs (Daryl Sabara) begins reading the journals of his apparently deceased uncle, John Carter.
The tale in the journals begins with a very bearded John Carter, who is caught by the U.S. Calvary, and brought to Colonel Powell (Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston). Powell wants him to join up in the Calvary, but Carter is not willing to fight, and thrown behind bars. But of course, Carter find a way out, and onto a horse.
