Getty ImagesBritish comedian John Cleese will receive an honorary award at the 23rd edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival in August.
Cleese, a co-founder of iconic British comedy team Monty Python and famous for creating such characters as the Man from the Ministry of Funny Walks and eccentric hotelier Basil Fawlty, will be presented with the festival’s Heart of Sarajevo award for his “extraordinary contribution to the art of film,” organizers said Wednesday.
The actor and comic, who also holds the post of visiting provost professor at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., has starred in films that include Monty Python’s Life of Brian, Monty Python and the Holy Grail and A Fish Called Wanda. Cleese will present a gala screening of A Fish Called Wanda during the festival.
A graduate of Britain’s Cambridge University, Cleese is the co-founder, with Antony Jay, of Video Arts, the largest management and sales training video company outside of the U.S., and co-author, with psychiatrist Dr. Robin Skynner, of two popular self-help books: Families and How to Survive Them and Life and How to Survive It.
The 23rd edition of the Sarajevo festival runs Aug. 11-18.
