Oscar-winning production designer John Myhre will design the 84th Academy Award telecast, producers Brian Grazer and Don Mischer announced Thursday.
“John is a prolific production designer, who has created some of the most intriguing sets that we’ve ever seen,” said a statement released by Grazer and Mischer. “His cinematic perspective will be a great contribution to our team dynamic and the show itself.”

The 2012 event will be Myhre’s first time designing the annual Oscar telecast.
Myhre is no stranger to the Oscar stage. He has won Academy Awards in the Art Direction category twice – in 2002 for Chicago and in 2005 for Memoirs of a Geisha. He was also nominated for his work on Elizabeth (1998), Dreamgirls (2006) and Nine (2009).
After original Oscar telecast producer Brett Ratner exited his post due to a slew of controversial and offensive comments he’d made while promoting his latest film, original Host Eddie Murphy, who is on the big screen in Ratner’s latest movie, Tower Heist, also departed.

The Academy moved quickly to hire Brian Grazer as producer and Billy Crystal as host for the 2012 event, which will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2012.
