Johnny Depp will voice the titular character in Paramount’s animated film Sherlock Gnomes.
James McAvoy and Emily Blunt are returning for the follow-up to the 2011 animated movie Gnomeo and Juliet, which earned $200 million worldwide.
In the new film, Gnomeo (McAvoy) and Juliet (Blunt) look to legendary detective Sherlock Gnomes (Depp) to investigate a string of garden gnome disappearances in London.
Kung Fu Panda helmer John Stevenson is directing the Paramount Animation and MGM film, which will hit theaters on Jan. 12, 2018.
Elton John, David Furnish, Steve Hamilton-Shaw and Carolyn Soper are producing the family film, which is written by Ben Zazove.
Depp, most recently seen playing Whitey Bulger in Black Mass, previously voiced the lead character in Rango. He is repped by UTA.
