Jon Bernthal is set to star in Stingray, a crime thriller to be directed by Anthony Hayes.
Perhaps best known as an Australian actor with movies such as Animal Kindgom under his belt, Hayes also co-wrote the script and is producing with John and Michael Schwarz (Deeper Water).
The script tells of a young man (Bernthal) caught up in organized crime who accidentally kills the brother of a powerful crime figure. He must then kill one of his own family in the next two days to pay off his blood debt.
Stingray is in preproduction and looking at an April start in Canada. The project will be introduced at the American Film Market in November.
Bernthal is coming off the strong opening of The Accountant, the Warner Bros.’ thriller in which he co-stars with Ben Affleck. The actor also generated praise for portraying Marvel’s anti-hero The Punisher in Netflix’s season two of Daredevil. He next will be seen in Baby Driver, Edgar Wright’s crime thriller that is set to open March 17.
Bernthal is repped by WME, Burstein Co. and Sloane Offer.
