Joss Whedon might not be as excited about Jurassic World as some people are.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron director, whose series Buffy the Vampire Slayer featured a strong female protagonist, posted a scathing assessment to Twitter of a new clip from the forthcoming dino-centric film. In the clip, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard‘s characters bicker about how to treat a genetically enhanced mutant dinosaur.
In response to The Mary Sue, which posted a tweet about being “too busy fanning ourselves to talk more about Chris Pratt in this #JurassicWorld clip,” Whedon replied: “… and I’m too busy wishing this clip wasn’t ’70s-era sexist. She’s a stiff, he’s a life-force — really? Still?”
In the clip, it is revealed that Claire (Howard) had rebuffed Owen (Pratt) during a date, and the two reunite to discuss the new dinosaur breed. Claire chides him for having worn board shorts on their date, while Owen says that the creatures aren’t just “numbers on a spreadsheet.”
Owen adds: “They’re thinking, ‘I gotta eat, I gotta hunt, I gotta [pantomimes sex].’ You can relate to at least one of those things, right?”
Universal releases director Colin Trevorrow‘s Jurassic World in theaters July 12. The clip and Whedon’s tweet can be seen below.
