Juliette Binoche is set to star in Ethan Hawke’s movie adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ 1953 stage play Camino Real, with Passage Pictures to produce.
Hawke earlier starred in a stage version of Camino Real at the Williamstown Theater Festival, and in the movie version is set to depict a surreal isolated town in a tropical climate where the characters live a sensual, dream-like narrative of love and burlesque dancing.
The film will shoot in Rio De Janeiro in 2020. “When Ethan told me about his vision for this bold, ambitious film adaptation, I was immediately excited to collaborate, and believed that Rio would be the perfect place to shoot. I can’t wait to see this remarkable, unique film come to life,” Uri Singer, CEO of Passage Pictures, said in a statement.
Hawke adapted the play with writer-composer Shelby Gaines. Singer and Hawke also worked together on Michael Almereyda’s Tesla in New York, where Hawke plays Nikola Tesla and Eve Hewson and Kyle MacLachlan play alongside Hawke.
John Sloss is also attached to produce Camino Real alongside Singer, Mario Peixoto and Ryan Hawke.
Hawke and Binoche are repped by CAA.
