Sony is gearing up for a return trip to the jungle.
Screenwriters Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner are in talks to pen a sequel to their hit Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Filmmaker Jake Kasdan, who helmed Welcome to the Jungle, is expected to return to direct.
Welcome to the Jungle stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan as the avatars of four teens sucked into a video game who must fight to beat the game and stay alive. The film, a continuation of Robin Williams’ 1995 movie, has been big for the studio, earning more than $857 million worldwide since opening in December, and sources say Sony hopes to reunite as many of the four main castmembers as it can.
Matt Tolmach is returning to produce the sequel, along with the Seven Bucks Production team of the film’s leading man Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia.
In addition to penning Welcome to the Jungle, Rosenberg and Pinkner are two of the writers behind Sony’s upcoming Venom movie.
Rosenberg and Pinkner are repped by WME.
