Kate Winslet delivered an adorably candid interview on E!’s red-carpet pre-show for Saturday night’s SAG Awards. After exchanging greetings with host Giuliana Rancic, Winslet took a minute to check her appearance in the E! monitor, exclaiming, “That’s what I look like. Oh, thank God.”
It seems, as the actress explained, she hadn’t had a chance to look in the mirror before running out the door in her emerald green, form-fitting Armani gown, and after already posing for photos on the red carpet, she finally saw her look for the evening and jokingly seemed quite satisfied.
“I look quite nice actually. I’m pleased with this look,” Winslet said, adding, “Well done, me!”
She attributed her nonchalance about looking in the mirror to growing older: “It’s a sign of my age that I’m just, ‘I’m not home, it’s another red carpet. Just get on with it.'”
After discussing her shock when she won the Golden Globe for best supporting actress for her role in Steve Jobs, Winslet, who’s up for a best supporting actress SAG Award for the same part, talked emojis with Rancic.
When asked about her favorite emojis, she said, “I always use the poo one and the chicken … I like the heart, but the one with the little pink heart and the other heart, that’s kind of girly so I like that one.”
Winslet also quickly revealed that her Steve Jobs co-star and SAG nominee for best actor, Michael Fassbender, wasn’t at the awards. However, it seems the two have stayed in touch since filming wrapped as she shared that he texted her that morning with “a series of emojis that I’ve never seen before” including a shrimp, a martini glass and “something else.”
As the interview was winding down, Winslet lamented that the whole interview was live, and thus her candid comments couldn’t be cut. But she seemed in good spirits about the whole thing, saying, “This was me … I’ll never change.”
