Pascal Le Segretain/Getty ImagesOscar-winning actress Kate Winslet — also a six time O-nominee – graces the cover of Italian Vanity Fair and opens up about her ordinary life, the media focus on her weight and why she dearly loves, and fully appreciates, her rear end.
On her normal life:
“I have always lived an ordinary life, and always will. It’s who and what has to do with my job that makes it “unordinary.” I cook, go to the supermarket, pick my children up at school.”
On media focus on her weight:
“It’s one of those things I learned quickly to ignore. Once it was different, it hurt me. When I was twenty I pretended it didn’t bother me, but I felt very bad, I did. In front of journalists and the public I acted superior, but I was dying inside. Now everything is different. It takes time, but you can learn it.”
On her lifelong weight issues:
“It’s true that you need much time to get rid of the fat girl you once were, but – you know – I am sincerely grateful for my buttocks. Wow, isn’t this a wonderful line?”
On not being a size XS:
“Honestly, among my acquaintances there is no woman wearing XS. No, sorry, there is one: my daughter. The point is that Mia is 11-years-old.”
Winslet’s next big screen role will be in Kennneth Branagh’s adaptiaton of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, based on a British best seller by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Burrows.
Winslet will play Julie Ashton, a writer who contacts a man from the Channel Islands (a British archipelago island off the coast of France) who details life under Nazi occupation during WWII, and the book group, which was a cover for British resistance. She travels to the islands to interview the people who were involved the book group.
This will be Kate and Ken’s reunion after 15 years when she played Ophelia in his Hamlet.
