Anyone who has ever admired one of Natalie Portman’s demure dresses or coveted Michelle Williams’ colorful cool-girl frocks can capture their vibe on April 14th, when super stylist Kate Young — who works with both actresses — officially launches her namesake collection for Target.
The line is comprised of under-$100 asymmetrical evening dresses, patent leather clutches that top out at $20 and high-waist satin shorts that, at $50, carry a 1940s pin-up feel. And while Young isn’t quite yet a household name outside the fashion set, she does hold heft within the industry, coming in at number four on this year’s THR list of Top 25 Most Powerful Hollywood Stylists. Last year, the former Vogue staffer held the list’s top spot, which, as she says in a video just released by Target, is what led to the collaboration with the big box retailer in the first place.
“Each year after the Oscars The Hollywood Reporter does a ranking of stylists, and they listed me as number one,” Young says on camera, describing how the line came to be. “And because of that I was asked to be on a TV show. During the interview they asked if I had any dreams, and I talked about bringing that red carpet magic to the real woman. And my friends at Target called and said, ‘You want to do this?'”
Williams has already worn a Kate Young for Target clutch with a Prada dress during her promo tour for Oz the Great and Powerful last month. Shoppers can pick up for themselves on their next detergent-and-paper towel run as soon as the line hits stores.
