SYDNEY – Roadshow Films will release new comedy, Kath & Kimderella, in Australia on Sept. 6, the distributor said Tuesday .
The film is the first feature from Australian comedy duo Jane Turner and Gina Riley, aka Kath and Kim, who wrote and starred in four seasons of their top rating eponymous TV series here, on both ABCTV and the Seven Network from 2002 to 2007.
Kath and Kimderella, previously known as The Kath & Kim Fillum, marks the duo’s return to Australian screens – this time the big screen – since their TV show was remade in the U.S. by NBC in 2008.
This time the “suburban nightmares who are living the suburban dream” find themselves in Positano, Italy where they end up being the center of their very own fairytale.
Filmed on location in Italy and in Melbourne, the comedy sees the original Kath & Kim cast of Turner, Riley, Glenn Robbins, Peter Rowsthorn and Magda Szubanski return. Additional cast and guest stars will be announced closer to release.
Kath & Kimderella was written by Turner and Riley, directed by Ted Emery and produced by Rick McKenna, with Turner and Riley.
Confirmation of a release date means the film will be third major local comedy to be released in 2012.
Stephan Elliot’s A Few Best Men, is currently the top local film at the box office to date this year, year taking $5 million in three weeks, while Working Dog’s romcom Any Questions For Ben was less well received bringing in just over $1.2 million in ten days.
