Kelly Marie Tran, who next stars in Disney’s animated film Raya and the Last Dragon, has signed with M88 for representation. The management company, launched in 2020, is focused on representing a diverse generation of talented artists who bring fresh perspectives and unique histories to create much needed cultural shifts.
Tran voices the titular character in Raya and the Last Dragon, which debuts March 5 and features a voice cast that includes Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim and Sandra Oh. She made her big screen debut in Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi as Resistance mechanic worker, Rose Tico. She was the first Asian- American woman cast in a lead role for the franchise, and Episode VIII earned over $1.3 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2017. In 2019, Tran reprised her role as Rose Tico in Star Wars: Episode IX.
Tran, who was included on THR’s Next Gen list, starred in DreamWorks’ The Croods: A New Age, and recently booked Hulu’s Anthology drama series Monsterland, based on the collection of stories from Nathan Ballingrud.
Phillip Sun, a former partner and top agent at WME, teamed with MACRO founder and CEO Charles D. King to launch M88,a full-service representation firm amplifying the voices of artists and creators from the global new majority. Among its clients are Michael B. Jordan, Gemma Chan, Idris Elba, Taraji P. Henson, Blitz Bazawule, Jayro Bustamante and Tina Mabry.
