Kevin Hart, Louis C.K. and Eric Stonestreet‘s upcoming animated project is headed for a summer release.
Illumination and Universal Pictures revealed the previously announced project will be called The Secret Life of Pets. It will hit theaters July 8, 2016, moving from its original February 2016 date.
The comedy centers on about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day.
The film also stars Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks. Chris Renaud, the director of Despicable Me and its sequel, is helming the project. Brian Lynch, and Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio wrote the script. On its new date, the family will will open against Fox’s comedy Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates and Paramount’s Star Trek 3.
Illumination, founded by Meledandri in 2007, was behind 2010’s hit Despicable Me, 2012’s Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax and 2013’s hit sequel Despicable Me 2. The company’s next project with Universal, Minions, opens this summer, on July 10.
