The second trailer for The Kid Who Would Be King dropped on Thursday.
Louis Ashbourne Serkis stars as Alex, a 12-year-old boy who discovers and removes King Arthur’s sword in the stone in the modern-day era. After retrieving the sacred weapon, Alex soon learns that he is destined to become the hero who will defeat the medieval villain Morgana (Rebecca Ferguson) and prevent her plan to take over the world.
Tom Taylor, Angus Imrie, Dean Chaumoo, Rhianna Doris, Denise Gough and Patrick Stewart round out the cast. Joe Cornish wrote and directed the fantasy adventure film.
The new trailer opens with Alex rushing around his house as he prepares to leave for school. After he accidentally smudges paint on a project, his mother (Gough) helps him finish the job.
“A land is only as good as its leaders. A true king is brave and noble,” says a voiceover as Alex stands up to a school bully. Clips follow of Alex finding the sword and taking it out of the stone. “You have more battles yet to fight. Now you must choose what you stand for,” the voiceover continues.
Once Alex learns that the sword belonged to King Arthur, he meets Merlin (Stewart). The character is often disguised as a student (Imrie) to blend in with Alex and his peers.
While initially hesitant to try to stop Morgana’s plan for world domination, Alex eventually recruits his friends to take on the villain. The trailer continues with a montage of magical moments, including young Merlin turning into a bird and Alex fighting a knight on a horse.
The trailer concludes as Alex’s friends take a knee to honor the “future king.” Alex responds, “Please don’t. It’s embarrassing.”
