The Killing showrunner Veena Sud has been tapped to pen a remake of Alfred Hitchcock‘s Suspicion for Paramount, a source close to the studio confirmed Monday. Montecito Picture Co. will produce.
Hitchcock’s 1941 original starred Cary Grant and Joan Fontaine; the film centers on gambling man Johnny Aysgarth, who meets a young woman named Lina McLaidlaw on a train. The two marry, but when Aysgarth’s business partner dies, McLaidlaw becomes suspicious of her husband’s true character. Fontaine won the best actress Oscar in 1942 for her portrayal of the questioning housewife.
The story is based on the 1932 crime novel Before the Fact, which was written by Anthony Berkeley.
Sud previously served as an executive producer of CBS’ Cold Case. The second season of AMC’s The Killing debuts April 1. Suspicion will be the first feature film script written by Sud.
