The film will have a special screening on the picturesque island off the coast of Naples on Jan. 1.
Emma Stone plays as an aspiring actress and Ryan Gosling portrays a jazz musician who dreams of opening his own club. The two meet and fall in love, dancing and singing their way through modern-day Los Angeles in a portrait of the city that pays respects to its many dreamers. The pic also stars John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt and J.K. Simmons.
The Capri Hollywood Film Festival takes place over the New Year holiday annually and is considered a key stop on the road to the Oscars. La La Land is considered a prime contender for best picture this year, among other honors. Stone picked up the best actress award in Venice at the film’s world premiere, and the pic won the People’s Choice award in Toronto this year. Stone and Gosling also will be feted as performers of the year at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in February.
Barry Morrow (Rainman) is chairing this year’s Capri Hollywood Film Festival. Hacksaw Ridge’s Bill Mechanic will receive producer of the year honors, and Stephen Frears will be feted as European director of the year for Florence Foster Jenkins.
Italy’s foreign-language Oscar entry Fire at Sea will receive the European movie of the year prize. The film about the refugee crisis from Gianfranco Rosi also is being submitted in the best documentary Oscar category. Scenic designer Dante Ferretti and set decorator Francesca Lo Sciavo will receive the fest’s legend award.
