The Los Angeles Police Department is searching for a Hollywood visual effects producer who went missing on Nov. 24, two days before Thanksgiving.
Eric Kohler, 27, was reported missing by a friend after he failed to return to work, Det. K. Thomas of the LAPD Missing Persons Unit confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. Kohler’s family rushed down to L.A. from their home in Oakley, California upon learning of his disappearance.
In an interview with NBC Los Angeles, Kohler’s parents tearfully described their son as very responsible, hardworking and dedicated to his job.
“He had big ambition to work hard and that’s what he was doing and something bad happened,” Sheryi Kohler, his mother said.
“He literally disappeared,” added his father, Tony Kohler. “It’s heartbreaking. It’s damn heartbreaking.”
NBC L.A. reports that Kohler walked out of work at Hydraulyx visual effects in Gardena without his wallet, laptop or bag and never returned. Surveillance footage from the entrance of the building shows Kohler leaving the building at around 4 p.m.
But Sheryi Kohler said that she could not believe that her son would simply take off on his own. “He would never do this,” she said to the news outlet.
Surveillance video of Kohler’s 2015 Range Rover and phone records reveal that he then went to Food 4 Less parking lot, NBC reports, but soon after that his phone was turned off.
Kohler’s IMDB profile credits him as visual effects producer on films including the upcoming Midnight Special, The Revenant, San Andreas, X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Hydraulyx, Vitality Visual Effects (with which Kohler is credited on working on his most recent films) nor 20th Century Fox Studios (The Revenant) immediately commented on the case when reached by THR.
Anyone with information regarding Kohler’s disappearance is asked to call the LAPD Missing Person Unit at 213-996-1800. After hours, please call LAPD’s RACR Division at 213-484-6700.
