Ahead of its big-screen debut next year, DC Entertainment’s Suicide Squad is getting blocky in the latest trailer for Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. Who knew a bunch of criminals turned unwilling antiheroes could look so cute?
The Squad — the “Suicide” being dropped from its title for the purposes of all-ages-friendly game-play — will debut in a new downloadable content pack for the game that will introduce new characters including Amanda Waller, Deadshot and Captain Boomerang, all of whom are due to appear in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie in 2016. (Other characters who won’t show up in the movie also will appear in the game, including Katana and King Shark.)

The Lego Squad marks the video game debut for the DC property, which has been slowly becoming one of the most well-traveled DC Entertainment concepts: In addition to next year’s movie, versions of the Suicide Squad have appeared in comic books, animated movies (last year’s Batman: Assault on Arkham), animated television series (including Justice League Unlimited) and live-action television, with the team appearing on both Smallville and the CW’s current Arrow.
Lego Batman 3′s “The Squad” add-on pack DLC will be available as part of the game’s season pass, following in the footsteps of similar “Man of Steel,” “Dark Knight,” “Batman 75th,” “Arrow” and “Bizarro World” packs.
