Gabriel Bateman, the young actor from James Wan’s Lights Out, is joining the Michelle Monaghan indie Saint Judy.
The biopic is based on the true story of Judy Wood (Monaghan), a single mother who moves to Los Angeles to work in immigration law and brings a case before the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit that changed national asylum law for female refugees.
Bateman will play Wood’s son, Alex, in the feature, which is currently in production.
Sean Hanish will direct the Saint Judy from a script by Dmirty Portnoy. Alfred Molina will also star and is set to executive produce along with Kelly Kahl. Hanish and Cannonball Productions’ Paul Jaconi-Biery will produce.
UTA Independent Film Group is handling the US rights for Saint Judy.
Next up for Bateman, who is repped by Coast to Coast and Hg5, is the Blumhouse-produced reboot of Benji. His other credits include Annabelle and the Cinemax series Outcast.
