Lily Rabe, the Tony-nominated actress who has carved a name for herself with American Horror Story, has been cast as the female lead in The Tender Bar, the drama that George Clooney is directing for Amazon Studios.
Ben Affleck and Tye Sheridan are starring in the adaptation of the memoir by J.R. Moehringer that recounted the writer’s adolescent years growing up on Long Island in search of a father figure among the patrons at his uncle’s bar.
Sheridan is playing the author while Affleck is the uncle. Rabe steps into the role of Moehringer’s mother, who is the main female character in the memoir.
William Monahan, the Oscar-winning scribe who penned The Departed, wrote the script.
Clooney and Grant Heslov are producing via Smokehouse Pictures along with Ted Hope, who is operating under his first-look deal with Amazon. Moehringer is executive producing.
Rabe, who is currently in production on the newest season of Ryan Murphy’s popular horror anthology, next stars in Amazon’s upcoming original series Tell Me Your Secrets. The 10-episode mystery drama, which reunites the actress with The Undoing producer Bruna Papandrea, debuts Feb. 19. She will also be seen in Barry Jenkins’ The Underground Railroad later this year.
Rabe is repped by WME, Mosaic and Gang Tyre.
