50 Caribbean feature-length fiction and documentary films will be screened at this year’s Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival, taking place September 17 through October 1. Biyi Bandele’s Half of a Yellow Sun will kick off the Festival’s opening night gala, while Jeroen Leinder’s feature Tula: The Revolt is set to close.
15 of the films will compete for one or more of four jury awards – Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary Feature, Best T&T Feature and Best Caribbean Film by an International Filmmaker. The Festival’s Panorama section includes films from Latin and North America and Trinidad and Tobago’s “heritage” regions, which includes countries such as India and China, with the latter making its debut at the TTFF.

In addition to the 50 features, 56 shorts and 36 experimental works from the Caribbean and the diaspora are in the lineup, summing up to 142 films set to screen at this year’s Festival.
“Now in its eighth year, the TTFF continues to grow in terms of the number and diversity of the countries we screen films from, as well as the quality of those films,” said Jonathan Ali, TTFF’s Editorial Director.
