Lionsgate is going Down a Dark Hall.
Meyer and Meghan Hibbett, who will also produce, optioned the supernatural novel through their Fickle Fish Films last year. It follows Kit Gordy, a new student at the exclusive Blackwood Boarding School who confronts the school’s supernatural occurrences and dark powers of its headmistress.
Michael Goldbach was brought on by Meyer and Hibbett to write the original draft of the screenplay. Chris Sparling, who wrote Gus Van Sant‘s upcoming Sea of Trees and the thriller Buried (which Cortés directed), will do additional writing on the script.
Duncan’s novels have previously been adapted into films, including 1997’s slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer and 2009’s Hotel For Dogs.
Alongside Meyer and Hibbett, Temple Hill Entertainment’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen will produce.
Lionsgate co-president Erik Feig, executive vp production and development Gillian Bohrer and executive James Myers will oversee the project on behalf of Lionsgate. Robert Melnik, Lionsgate business affairs executive vp, negotiated the deal on behalf of the studio.
Fickle Fish, Temple Hill, Sparling, Goldbach and Cortes are repped by UTA. The book was repped by Jody Hotchkiss & Associates.
