Lizzy Caplan is headed for the X-Men universe.
The actress is in negotiations to star in Gambit opposite Channing Tatum, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The film is set to be directed by Gore Verbinski and star Tatum as the New Orleans-based mutant with the power to manipulate kinetic energy and whose weapons include a staff and a deck of playing cards.
Caplan earned an Emmy nomination for her work on Showtime’s Masters of Sex, which ran for four seasons from 2013-16 and saw her play researcher Virginia Johnson. The actress stars in the upcoming sci-fi film Extinction, opposite Michael Pena, and has also been involved in the comic book realm before, appearing in the 2012 short film Marvel One-Shot: Item 47, which was released with the Avengers Blu-ray.
Gambit is ramping up as Fox continues to expand its X-Men film universe. Next year will see the release of New Mutants (April 13), Deadpool 2 (June 1) and X-Men: Dark Phoenix (Nov. 2).
20th Century Fox has slated Gambit for a Feb. 14, 2019, release.
